Hey, I’m Rick!
I’m a collector, creator and adult fan of LEGO or “AFOL”. Like many others, LEGO was a big part of my childhood and played a role in my life as I was growing up. I didn’t have many sets as a kid, but what I did have I cherished and still have today! My favorite of all time, the Cosmic Fleet Voyager (6985) was a Christmas gift from ‘Santa’ and I never grew tired of it. I would separate the different parts of the ship (cause that’s how LEGO did things back then), act out search and rescue missions or attack scenarios, and sometimes take it apart to rebuild it using the instructions just for fun. I am convinced that LEGO was the first building block (pun intended) for my love of plans and instructions which lead to my career in Architecture.
It wasn’t always a love story for me and LEGO however, there were a good number of years where my sets sat in their boxes tucked safely in storage bins. After all, teenagers don’t play with LEGO right? WRONG! I just had other things in mind ;) It wasn’t until 1999 when LEGO introduced the first Star Wars sets that my interest was renewed. During a shopping trip I stumbled into a Toys R Us and there they were in all their glory. X-wing, Y-wing, Vader’s TIE, Imperial Shuttle, they were all there and I bought 1 of each (plus two standard TIE fighters). My goal at the time was to build a model of the Death Star trench run…but that never happened.
I didn’t touch LEGO for another 16 years (my “dark age” as they call it) until out of nowhere my wife surprised me with set 75105 Millennium Falcon for Christmas. It was once again linked to my love of Star Wars as the Force Awakens hit theaters that year. I was floored and couldn’t wait to build it. Later that night I sat down, carefully opened the box and pulled out the bags. I was transported right back to my childhood with the feeling of excitement and eagerness as I ripped open the bags and poured the pieces out onto the table. Then…the instructions, glorious and colourful with incredible art as always. Piece by piece I put that Falcon together until voila, it was finished.
Building the Falcon renewed my love for LEGO, and what followed next was nothing short of an explosion. I dove right into my old sets, built them all and displayed them. Then, I ventured into the secondary sellers market and that’s where things really took off. Now with a ton of LEGO I’ve decided to take on MOC building, and started this website to share my journey.
Happy viewing!
